Welcome, August! An annual month of transition and celebration for our family.

  • My husband goes back to work after his summer off. This month, he begins his 4th year teaching science virtually to middle and high school students. We are so grateful that he continues to have this virtual teaching opportunity!
  • Our sons start 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade! They are getting so big, and I am seeing all the signs of us fully entering the tween era with our oldest. Am I ready for that? TBD.
  • My husband and I celebrate 13 years of marriage and 16 years of life together this month. What even is time?? He’s my person. So blessed and grateful.
  • Our youngest turns 7 this month. Again, what even is time?? We are planning a Fortnite party with family, and he is beyond excited. He asks at least 10x per day, “how many days until my birthday?” (Fully recommend this digital Fortnite birthday invitation purchased from Etsy!)

The new school year starts in two days. I am currently typing this while convincing the boys that yes, their bed time is back to 8:30pm as we try to transition back to some semblance of routine and rhythms.

We thoroughly enjoyed our summer. Although I worked still while they all had time off, we still made lots of family memories, including a surprise trip to Lake Havasu in June to celebrate the end of the school year, a 12-day RV roadtrip for Zion National Park, Jellystone Zion Campground, and Yellowstone National Park, time with family and friends, family walks and movie nights, flag football on Saturday mornings, and parkour camp.

Yet, I think most of us are craving the routine that comes with back to school season. If you ask my 8yo, he will firmly deny this. 😂

[Momentary writing pause to say out loud: “About 5 more minutes boys and then we’re going to bed!”]

As for me, writing here more regularly again will absolutely be part of my new routine and rhythms. I have missed it dearly, and frankly, keep letting way less important things (like umm… social media…) take up too much time. I have thoughts on that coming to the blog soon.

When I started this site many years ago, I had a vision to share honest reflections, encouragement, and faith throughout my motherhood journey and family life. I am being called back to that vision. If just one person reads something here that helps them in some way, it is all worth it.

With that, I wish you a wonderful August, a smooth back to school season, and peace in your heart, home and relationships. ❤️
