I’ve partnered with two amazing mothers, Meaghan and Elzy, to bring you this gift guide on how to support mothers of miscarriage this upcoming Mother’s Day.
I’ve known Meaghan and Elzy since childhood, and I’ve reconnected with them over the shared experience of miscarriage. I’m so thankful for the support of these lovely ladies, and their desire to raise awareness about this lifelong journey.
From the hearts of three mothers of miscarriage, here are 5 ways you can pour love and support upon mothers who are missing babies in their arms this Mother’s Day.
1. encouragement and prayers
Words of support and encouragement as well as prayers are truly the best gift. A simple message, text, or phone call to let her know you are thinking of her and her babies blesses a mother’s heart. For those mothers who only have children in heaven, words of encouragement acknowledging that she is a mother and speaking of her baby by name goes such a long way!
Some of the most encouraging words we have received include:
“They [our babies] live with us.”
“You are an amazing mama and although it is hard now, one day you’ll see that little one and it will be heaven. Your heaven.”
“Even though you didn’t get to hold your baby, rest assured one day you’ll meet in heaven, and nothing will separate you then.”
“Happy Mother’s Day. Thinking of you today. I love you.”
“What an amazing gift that when the time comes, you’ll be shown around heaven by your child.”
“Baby __ is so blessed to have you as their mother.”
I don’t know about you, but flowers always brighten my day, especially if they are accompanied by a thoughtful message.
3. books or journals
Books or journals can be the perfect gift to equip a grieving mother with the tools needed to process her emotions and feel peace through this difficult journey.
A grieving mother can find peace in having a memento of their child with them at all times. This has been one of the ways I honor my baby on a daily basis. I wear a ring with May’s birthstone with the engraving “my little angel”. This was a gift from my husband immediately following our miscarriage that he designed himself at Jewlr.
A piece of artwork displayed at home can help a grieving mother find hope in having their child’s memory a part of day to day life.
Wishing all mothers a beautiful and blessed Mother’s Day.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
